Okapi
Design concept
Okapi is an app that incentivises exercise in a different way: discover the world around you and get fit doing it. Pick up tokens as you walk, run or cycle and find items that relate to the environment around you. Find special offers for local businesses and healthy pursuits and compete against friends or in regional competitions. Taking the addictive and social element from games such as Pokémon Go, I wanted to take the gamification of fitness one step further.
The Okapi brand
The aim of the design was to create a look that was set apart from other running or fitness apps, appealing to all ages, genders and levels of ability. I wanted it to eschew the cold masculine slickness of competitor services with a vibrant palette of colours, idiosyncratic design and a sense of anarchic fun absent from other apps.
Logo and brand colours
The logo is also a combination of Harbour and Archivo, carrying through the distinctive dual characteristics through to the brand.
Collectibles and gamification
Collecting tokens and items as you exercise gives you offers at nearby businesses and places of interest, as well as some fun information about the spaces around you. Okapi incentivises discovery and fitness. The idiosyncratic illustration set brings colour to local history and attractions while encouraging further exploration.
Offers
As you run, walk or cycle, collect special offers for local businesses and healthy pursuits.
